With the end of the military regime, the military sought new means of political engagement that were more suited to the return of democracy. One of the methods they found was exerting pressure. To this end, both left- and right-wing military personnel organized themselves into Pressure Groups. One of these groups, representing the Military Right, was Ombro a Ombro, founded in May 1988. Initially, it operated indirectly but later adopted a more direct strategy aimed at a power project.
Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze the political actions of the Ombro a Ombro group during the early period of the New Republic (1988-1994) through two tactics adopted at the time. To conduct this brief analysis, the theoretical concept of Pressure Groups, as discussed in the works of Eduardo Heleno de Jesus Santos and Arthur Trindade Costa, will be explored. Finally, the outcome of this political endeavor will be examined in its two phases.
