Abstract:
This article highlights the relevance of independent candidacies in the current Brazilian political context, considering the crisis of political parties and the need for institutional renewal. Although not the definitive answer, such candidacies can play an important role when allied with a comprehensive political reform, contributing to the strengthening of political institutions and, possibly, to the improvement of citizens’ political participation. Meanwhile, this study will analyze the historical framework, institutions, and principles surrounding this topic.
