The Narcissistic Voter and Political Reform in Brazil: Paths and Perspectives

Author:

VOLGANE OLIVEIRA CARVALHO

Abstract:

This study analyzes the evolution of active political participation as the profile of the voter begins to take shape. Based on the perception that the modern voter is narcissistic and increasingly desires to be heard and heeded by their political representatives, it seeks an ideal model for the Brazilian political system that is intended to be reformed. Given the prospects of political reform advancing in the National Congress, it is understood that the closed-list system proposed will not meet the desires of this restless, narcissistic voter. In fact, the model that seems to align with their interests is the mixed-member proportional representation system.
