Abstract:
“Coalition Presidentialism in Motion” is a collection of articles by researchers affiliated with the Postgraduate Program in Political Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the Professional Master’s Program in Legislative Power at the Center for Training and Development (Cefor) of the Chamber of Deputies, resulting from the technical-scientific partnership between the postgraduate programs of the two institutions. The authors seek to describe and explain the institutional change in Brazilian coalition presidentialism, emphasizing the relationships between the Legislative Branch and the other branches of government, political parties, and parliamentary committees. The work stems from the institutional and academic effort and the epistemological restlessness inherent in researchers and professionals committed to seeking explanations for relevant issues from a scientific, social, and political point of view, disseminating democratic values, and offering critical reflection that contributes to improving the institutional performance of the Legislative Branch. Far from attempting to exhaust the complex topic of the evolution of coalition presidentialism with a reasonable degree of unity and coherence, in order to provide an enjoyable, comprehensive, and well-articulated reading, this work offers new perspectives, provides important analytical insights, revisits models, opens space for new questions, and ultimately invites continued dialogue on the subject.
