BETWEEN CULTURE AND POLITICS: THE DISTINCTION IN THE PRODUCTION OF OPINION IN THE MEDIA

This paper aims to analyze the different mechanisms of political opinion production among a group of columnists, commentators and political analysts of the media in contemporary Brazil, relating these mechanisms to the positions of agents in the social space. Based on Pierre Bourdieu’s analyzes in Distinction: A social critique of the judgement of taste, especially in the “Culture and politics” chapter, this article proposes to correlate these mechanisms with a set of practices and dispositions related to the habitus – therefore including expressions of taste and style of life – as well as with the field in which these agents are inserted. The study was developed from the analysis of 51 individuals, with interviews and prosopography.
